As a means of further addressing the developmental learning needs of students, Westchester Country Day offers an Academic Support Center staffed by one full-time and two part-time employees. The program is designed to provide very specific learning techniques used for remedial reading, math, and written language. Additionally, emphasis is placed on developing learning strategies to improve the student’s overall study skills.
For those students referred for a specific content area, the program offers tutorial assistance. Subject matter covered in the classroom is reinforced. A learning strategies approach to enhance the learning of concepts is incorporated into the sessions. We believe we can improve consistent communication between the student’s current classroom placement and tutorial sessions by providing an on-site resource program. It is beneficial to include these sessions within the context of the academic day. Referrals can be made to an instructor in the Academic Support Center . There is an additional charge for one-on-one services, and these services are contracted and paid in advance on a semester basis. Students are accepted into the program on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the school does not guarantee services beyond the capacity of its staff.
