Westchester's Approach
In keeping with our nurturing and supportive community, the Westchester approach to college guidance is best characterized as hands-on and individualized. College advising begins well before the senior year, as a dedicated college guidance director meets with students and parents of grades 9-12 to counsel them through the journey. Throughout their time in Upper School, students receive abundant advice and instruction in everything from course selection to standardized test preparation, career exploration to resume building, visiting colleges to scholarships and financial aid. In addition to personal support, parents and students also have access to Naviance, a college and career readiness software, as a resource throughout the process.
When senior year arrives, the college guidance office serves as a clearinghouse for all application materials, with the college director available to assist with any aspect of a student's applications. Additionally, Westchester teachers write perceptive, insightful recommendations that promote each student's strengths and potential and reflect a well-developed relationship between the student and the writer.
