Donnie Sellers Joins Athletic Hall of Fame
Westchester Country Day School inducted baseball standout Donnie Sellers, Class of 2014, into its Athletic Hall of Fame during the school’s Homecoming celebration on Jan. 10.
Surrounded by family, friends, former teammates, and mentors, Sellers was presented with the award during a ceremony in Brooks Gym. He joins the list of former honorees who have made significant contributions to athletic excellence at Westchester.
“I feel really blessed to be in this situation and to be in this room in front of the people who really love me, and I love you too,” said Sellers, as he thanked the crowd gathered to honor his achievements.
Westchester baseball career included three state championships (2012, 2013, 2014), three conference championships (2011, 2013, 2014), and four regular season conference championships (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014). He was named All-State Player in 2013 and 2014, All-Conference Player in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and Conference Player of the Year in 2014. He was MVP in both 2013 and 2014. He also was the recipient of the Wildcat Award in 2012.
"Westchester has been fortunate to graduate several of the Triad's greatest athletes, who have left our halls and gone on to make amazing accomplishments in their sports and lives, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to recognize another one of them this year,” said Adam Schwartz, athletic director at WCDS. “Donnie Sellers was an incredible student-athlete at Westchester, and we are so honored to recognize him to be inducted into our 12th Hall of Fame class."
Donnie SellersSellers, a High Point native, earned a baseball scholarship to Wake Forest University and was part of the team that won the 2017 Winston-Salem Regional Championship (NCAA). He was drafted in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft to the Toronto Blue Jays and was a 2017 Northwest League Champion with the Blue Jays’ affiliate, the Vancouver Canadians.
Nominations for the Athletic Hall of Fame were solicited from all Westchester alumni. The final selection was determined by a committee of alumni, faculty and staff, and members of the athletic department.
