WCDS Commitment to Cultivating Citizens and Leaders During Election Season
In the spirit of a school community that offers the best possible foundation for students to flourish, Westchester Country Day School commits to cultivating responsible citizens and leaders in the context of the upcoming presidential election.
Technology has provided amazing new ways to connect and communicate with those we know and love, as well as those a world away. As we navigate a world of communication that can often be brief or inauthentic, the faculty and staff at WCDS strive to uphold those aspects of communication that are sacred:
- Not just speaking, but also listening.
- Not just defending, but also exploring.
- Not just explaining, but also considering.
In the world of Google and AI, WCDS strives to adapt the timeless skills of research, conversation, and reflection. We focus daily on the aspects of our Code of Conduct that encourage all members of our Wildcat Nation to speak honestly and positively and respect everyone.
As we head into this election season, this is our commitment to WCDS families:
- We will strive to educate students on the history of government and democracy without sharing our own political beliefs; otherwise, we will have failed in our primary goal: supporting independent learners.
- We will seek to encourage a sense of curiosity about candidates, rather than vilifying one or another; otherwise, we will have failed in our goal of creating respectful learners.
- We will promote a sense of hope rather than disaster; otherwise, we will have failed to cultivate responsible citizens and leaders.
We look forward to partnering with families in this endeavor while we raise the citizens and leaders of our future.
