Westchester Country Day School introduced a largescale wall display in honor of Cobb Atkinson, former head of school, during the second semester assembly on Jan. 16.

From 2010-2013, Atkinson shared his enthusiasm for lifelong learning and love of Westchester until concluding his time in leadership in spring 2023. He often modeled being a student himself, one year taking Terry Andrews' photography class, which inspired a passion for this artistic medium. Also, having a special affinity for poetry, he often started his AP Literature class with a poem of the day.

"With these two things in mind, we have created a tribute with one of his favorite poems and a collection of his original photographs in the lobby of the Wilson Center, where students and faculty come and go throughout each school day," said Mary Keever, interim head of school, who worked alongside Atkinson on the faculty during his 13 years at WCDS.

This piece includes the poem "The Summer Day" by Mary Oliver along with a collection of photos Atkinson captured during travels and in his backyard.

"We are excited for all of our students, faculty, staff, families, alumni and friends to consider what the poem and his beautifully captured images inspire," said Keever in her announcement.

Atkinson, his wife, Raegan, director of college guidance, and daughter Mallory, a senior, were in attendance for the assembly and viewed the tribute for the first time with members of the Board of Trustees and staff.

The school community is invited to visit the campus to view the poetry and photography display.
