Westchester's own rock band, Outburst, formed by Upper School students from the Contemporary Music class, played the opening act for a concert at the GTCC High Point Campus. This is the second year the band has participated in this concert, which is a final project for GTCC's Entertainment Technology program.

This partnership with GTCC provides Westchester students the chance to perform in a professional setting with full lighting and sound production provided by GTCC students, and it helps the college students complete their final production requirement for the semester.

The students in Westchester's Contemporary Music class form a new rock band (by a new name) each school year. They work with music teacher Ken Mickey to develop a set list of popular music and write their own original songs.

Since most of their performances are for their classmates and parents, the band's performance at GTCC provided a special opportunity to broaden their exposure.

“Several of GTCC's programs work together to create the most entertaining exam I have ever witnessed," said Mickey. "Our WCDS band getting to be a part of a college experience is thrilling for me and my students. Seeing GTCC students create the stage, cue the lighting and run the sound for the music program's winter concert is a blast. Outburst opening the show is a great way to get our students performing in front of the community and their peers."
