Westchester is pleased to welcome the following new faculty for the 2020-21 school year:

Tiffany Fox, Middle School English Teacher
Tiffany Fox joins WCDS as a Middle School English teacher. She will be teaching seventh grade language arts and literature classes. Before moving to High Point, Ms. Fox worked as a teacher in Washington, D.C., for D.C. Prep's elementary and middle school campuses and gained experience working with students across various grade levels, including classroom instruction, small group instruction and reading intervention. She has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a concentration in social behavioral sciences from the University of Louisville and a Master in Business Administration with a concentration in business administration, management and marketing from Strayer University. She has additional background in creative arts, fitness training and sports.
Alex Frey, Librarian/Media Specialist
Alex Frey joins WCDS as a librarian and media specialist. She comes to WCDS from High Point University, where she worked as an academic librarian in the children’s library at the School of Education and then Head of Technical Services. Ms. Frey has a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts with a focus in world literature and a Master of Library and Information Science from UNCG. Her interests include animals, nature, cooking, and of course, books and reading.
Matt Gasson, Technology and Upper School Math Teacher
Matt Gasson joins WCDS as a technology and Upper School math teacher. He will be teaching sixth and seventh grade technology classes, Competition Robotics, AP Computer Science and Algebra I. He is also head coach for Middle School Boys Soccer and assistant coach for Middle School Girls Soccer. Mr. Gasson comes to Westchester with 20 years of experience in IT as a programmer/analyst, software developer, and software architect. He has a Bachelor of Arts in information systems and operations management from UNCG. He has one daughter, 14, and is a self-proclaimed Arsenal FC fanatic.
Kelly Goldsmith, Middle/Upper School Spanish Teacher
Kelly Goldsmith joins WCDS as a Middle and Upper School Spanish teacher. Profe. Goldsmith is beginning her ninth year as an educator and first year at Westchester. She has experience working with students of all ages in K-12 settings and has also instructed several college level courses. In addition to teaching Spanish, Profe. Goldsmith taught ESL and GED-prep courses as an intern at the Greenville Literacy Association in Greenville, South Carolina. She also served as the graduate assistant to UNC-Chapel Hill's undergraduate study abroad program in Seville, Spain, for the 2016-17 academic year. Profe. Goldsmith has Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and history from Furman University and a Master of Arts in Spanish language and Hispanic literature from UNC-Chapel Hill. Working with students and sharing her love of Spanish and Hispanic cultures is one of Profe. Goldsmith's greatest passions. When she is not teaching she loves to travel, study other languages (she's currently working on Portuguese!), hike, and spend time on her stand-up paddleboard.
Katherine Henriques, Athletic Trainer
Katherine Henriques joins WCDS as the athletic trainer. She also assists in teaching the Exercise Physiology class. Ms. Henriques graduated from Western Carolina in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training. While completing her degree, she completed clinical rotations working with athletes at N.C. State University, University of Richmond and Forsyth Country Day School.
Brooke Hobbs, Chemistry Teacher
Brooke Hobbs joins WCDS as an Upper School Chemistry teacher. She will be teaching Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry this year. Mrs. Hobbs earned a Bachelor of Science in biology with a chemistry minor from UNC-Chapel Hill and then completed a Master of Arts in Teaching for Secondary Sciences at East Carolina University. A Kernersville/Winston-Salem native, she comes to Westchester after teaching introductory and AP chemistry courses at Salem Academy for the past five years. Mrs. Hobbs and her husband have a daughter, Isla, born Aug. 23, as well as three cats and a 110-pound bloodhound.
Gia Huang, Lower/Upper School Mandarin Teacher
Gia Huang joins WCDS as a Lower School and Upper School Mandarin teacher. She is teaching the Pre-K through fifth grade Lower School enrichment classes as well as the ninth and 10th grade Advanced Mandarin classes. She has taught in three countries so far. In her undergraduate teacher preparation period, she worked with native Mandarin Chinese speaking teenagers who were learning English as a second language in China. In 2017, she taught English to a group of children in Bali Indonesia through an international volunteering program. She also has experience working with Hispanic students as English language learners in Nashville Public Schools over the past two years. Ms. Huang has a Bachelor of Arts in foreign language studies with a concentration in English teaching from Huzhou University in China and a Master of Education in teaching English to speakers of other languages/second language education from Vanderbilt University.
Charlotte Newman, Director of Food Services
Charlotte Newman joins WCDS as Director of Food Services. She oversees the preparation of lunch daily with a staff of five in the kitchen in Wilson Student Center. She worked in the food service department at Westchester for three and a half years previously. She is certified as a Food Safety Manager and has degrees in graphic design and commercial art and advertising design from the Art Institute of Charlotte and Guilford Technical Community College.
Brook Patterson, Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director
Brook Patterson joins WCDS as a physical education teacher and assistant athletic director. He is also head coach for the Varsity Boys Basketball team and assistant coach for Varsity Boys Soccer. Coach Patterson has been coaching at Westchester for the past six years and has 20 years of experience in college athletics. He completed his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and a master’s degree in sports management from Nova Southeastern University. His son Myles is a senior and his son Nolan is in eighth grade this year at Westchester.
