WCDS Presents “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.”
Westchester Country Day School presents the K-12 musical “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.” Nov. 5-7.
The show will be performed live for an audience in Rives Hall on the campus at 2045 N. Old Greensboro Road, High Point, and through livestreaming online. Show times are 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 6, and 2 p.m. on Nov. 7.
The set and costumes are designed and created by Westchester students, faculty, parents and volunteers. The Upper School Play Production class also helps with set construction, lighting and sound.The musical production features a cast of more than 60 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The cast is led by seniors Meredith Harron as Ariel, Katie Todd as Ursula, Alex Hicks as King Triton, Wills Heard as Prince Eric, Olivia Cecil as Sebastian, Stephen McLean as Scuttle, Ashley George as mersister Aquata, and Priya Parikh as Carlotta. The show is directed by Debby Noyes.
With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and book by Doug Wright, the musical is based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and popular Disney film produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker and written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice.
