3, 2, 1 Blast Off! Explore the Science of Reading and propel your young child to a future of academic success. Launch Your Child to Literacy Success will help those with children in preschool through second grade (ages 3-8) develop their reading and writing superpowers.

Session Topics:

  • Latest research on the Science of Reading
  • What to look for in quality literacy instruction
  • Tips and tools to use at home to develop reading and writing skills
  • How to advocate for your child's learning

Contributors to this program include Chelsey Beck and Kathryn Yarbrough, WCDS pre-K teachers; Emily Mercadante and Ashleigh Welder, WCDS kindergarten teachers; Marla Seelig, WCDS second grade teacher; Maria Ashburn, WCDS fifth grade teacher; Amy Caputa, WCDS library media specialist, Lisa Meyer-Braun, WCDS academic support specialist; Roberta Burton, High Point Public Library; Linda Rhyne, NC Chapter President of The Reading League; and partners from the Jamestown Public Library Guild.

This program is part of Westchester's parent education series on a variety of wellness topics supporting academic, social and emotional development in students. Sessions are open to all parents of school-aged children from the Triad area.

Westchester Country Day School is a PK-12 independent, college preparatory school that teaches students how to learn, think critically and solve problems creatively.
