CARES Crews Show Generosity by Serving
Westchester Country Day School students, faculty and parents worked together to show support for Western NC with the most recent C.A.R.E.S. Crews service projects.
While learning about the character word for the month of November, Generosity, WCDS collected supplies to pack care kits for kids and teens in Watauga County. Items included toiletries, small toys, books and more.
During a schoolwide service event, students worked together to put the items into buckets that will be distributed in partnership with Lake Logan and Camp Henry to help with relief efforts for Hurricane Helene.
Westchester students packed 222 care kits and more than 130 encouragement cards, which will also be distributed in Western NC through the NC Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom initiative.
The November C.A.R.E.S. Crews service event also continued supporting a local partnership with Cancer GPS-Guideposts of Strength. Students made 265 Hearts for Hope bead ornaments for cancer patients.
Westchester involves all students in community service through its C.A.R.E.S. Crews program, which pairs students pre-K through 12th into groups that complete service learning projects together throughout the year. These projects are a hands-on component of the school's mission to promote student growth in moral character. CARES stands for compassion, awareness, responsibility, empathy and service.
