George CulpWestchester Country Day School senior George Culp will play in the high school soccer All-American Game in St. Louis on May 29.

He is one of 45 high school players from across the country and the only player from North Carolina selected for the game.

Culp is the captain of Westchester’s Varsity Boys Soccer team, which won the 2020 N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2A State Championship in the fall. Following the season, Culp was named Conference Player of the Year and received both All-State and All-Region honors. He is also the all-time leading scorer for the Wildcats with 105 goals.

“We are so proud of George and all he has accomplished as an outstanding student and teammate,” said Adam Schwartz, director of athletics and head soccer coach at WCDS. “He is going to have the opportunity to play against the best players he’s ever seen in this game, and I know he will step up, play hard and represent our school and our soccer program well.”

Culp is the first Westchester athlete to be selected as a boys’ soccer All-American. Players selected for the All-American Game are seniors who have finished their high school careers and played during the fall season. According to the selection committee, the players have achieved many regional and national awards and will attend top universities.

George Culp in Championship Game“All the credit goes to having the best team and coaches I could ask for, and the recognition comes with being a part of such a successful program,” said Culp. “I’m excited and ready to play in the game. It’s going to be so much different than what I’ve done so far.”

Culp and the other players will travel to St. Louis on May 27 and take part in team trainings and activities leading up to the game on the 29th, which will be livestreamed.

“In addition to being a great soccer player, George brings academics, character and leadership to the mix,” said Schwartz. “He has worked hard to earn every one of his accomplishments while staying humble and putting his teammates first, and to me, that is what an All-American does.”

Culp is the son of Iv and Leslie Culp of High Point. He will graduate from WCDS in June and is still finalizing his college plans.
