All-School Event Moral Excellence

In collaboration with the United Way of Greater High Point, Westchester Country Day School will participate in CANpaign food drive from Monday, Sept. 19 to Friday, Sept. 23rd, to support local organizations that distribute food in the community.

The food drive is a school-wide initiative of C.A.R.E.S. Crews, a program that pairs students from different grade levels pre-K through 12th together to learn about and complete projects of compassion, awareness, responsibility, empathy and service. Throughout the year, crews perform acts of service for others around our school, neighboring communities, nation and the world to show others that Westchester cares.

During the week of the 19th-23rd, United Way donation boxes will be placed around Westchester’s campus. Recommended items for donation include canned food, boxed items such as macaroni and cheese, pasta, and other non-perishable items. Throughout the week, the number of items donated by students will be recorded, encouraging a competition between the C.A.R.E.S. Crews. The crew that contributes the most non-perishable food items to the CANpaign will receive an ice cream party.

"Food insecurity is rising in the greater community, and our C.A.R.E.S. Crews want to be on the front lines helping with this initiative," said Lauren Ingold, C.A.R.E.S. Crews coordinator.

According to local statistics, the need is significant, with food pantries in High Point reporting an increase in first-time clients and an abundance of empty shelves. According to the United Way and Brad Bowers, executive director of West End Ministries, since the start of 2022, West End Ministries has seen a 50 percent increase in people coming for food help. Open Door Ministries has experienced a similar increase as well, and WCDS Upper School students will be helping directly by serving meals regularly.

At the end of the week, all donated food will be collected by the United Way of Greater High Point and distributed to various food pantries throughout the community. For any questions or information, contact Lauren Ingold at [email protected] or 336.822.4007.

Thank you for your support to this important initiative!
