One of my favorite parts of the day is the senior Advanced Placement English Literature class that I teach. We are now in the second and final semester of their senior year, so I recently asked them to share what they believed was the best thing about Westchester.

These seniors, many of whom have been here for 13 years, shared what they valued most in our school. I found their words both powerful and compelling, and so I wanted to share them with our school community.

Ashley George

"As a senior, I feel prepared for the next chapter of my life because of the time I have spent at Westchester. I have learned so many valuable lessons that will help me flourish in college."

-- Ashley George

“Westchester is a very welcoming space with caring faculty and students. The teachers are supportive and always willing to help you be successful in any way they can. Westchester is very good at preparing you for the future and is a place where everyone can thrive.”

-- Ella Timberlake

Meredith Harron

“One thing I appreciate about Westchester is the student-teacher relationships that can be found here. The teachers do not view Westchester as a hierarchy where they are greater than the students and everything they say is the hard law. Rather, students' ideas and opinions are valued and encouraged. Faculty and students work together to create the best outcomes for everyone, not just the teachers.”

-- Meredith Harron

"Westchester is a place that has allowed me to pursue rigorous academics while competing in a competitive athletic program. It is a place where all will feel accepted and will find an activity that they excel in whether that be athletics, academics, the arts, or something else. The teachers, coaches, and mentors have helped guide me and prepare me to chase my dreams in college and beyond. They pour their lives into their students to help them realize and achieve their full potential."

“The teachers at Westchester are phenomenal. They are always ready to help and guide the students when we are lost. Westchester has a variety of clubs and activities to join that allow us to grow. There is something for everyone whether you want to perform in school plays or participate in varsity sports. It's a great environment with a small student-to-faculty ratio.”

“I think the best aspect of our school is the support everyone has for one another. The faculty and students want the best for each other and someone is always willing to lend a helping hand. There are countless opportunities to grow within the classroom and through sports or the arts because the community here encourages you to try new things and seek support while doing so.”

Duncan Grimes“Hailing from Westchester I can confidently say education is the key focus of the school. Look around and you will see students learning all they can about how to prepare themselves for college. Undoubtedly, Westchester is the place to spend your time." -- Duncan Grimes
"One aspect of Westchester that has made a huge difference for me is how much everyone looks out for another, both teachers and classmates. I truly believe growing up in this encouraging and collaborative community has made me both a better student and a better person." -- Katie ToddKatie Todd
Sidney Briggs

“Westchester Country Day School allows for a curriculum that encompasses both STEM and Humanities and deep learning within each subject matter. With a variety of course offerings, Westchester offers many clubs, sports, and arts opportunities, unparalleled in the rest of High Point. Although small, Westchester does not let its size stop it from having a large number of opportunities to help a student explore their passions and find their interests.”

-- Sidney Briggs

"The ability to get hands-on engagement with material for both academics and college preparation has built an amazing foundation for focusing on graduate academics and a career."

"The best thing about Westchester is the welcoming and supportive environment. Any issues I have been faced with during my time here, Westchester has been very accommodating to help me any way they could. I am grateful to have attended school here as I have felt very cared for and am well prepared for college."

-- Lily Wilson

"Community is what sets Westchester apart. Our tight-knit Wildcat community guides its students through endless new experiences and pushes them out of their comfort zone, whether that's playing a new sport, acting in a school play, or exploring the world of creative problem-solving through Odyssey of the Mind. I am so thankful to have been a part of such a caring group of people for the last thirteen years and I know these bonds will last a lifetime!"

Stephen McLean

"The faculty at WCDS, when involved with an extracurricular activity, are involved and heavily invested in the results of said activity, especially within the drama department. I know I can truly count on the faculty to care about how things are going at Westchester."

-- Stephen McLean

"When I think of Westchester, I immediately think about the relationships formed between teachers and students. It is unlike anywhere else. From the minute you enter the classroom to the minute you leave, they care for you and want the best for you. I have experienced 13 years of these relationships and am so grateful to all of the teachers and faculty here."
