Westchester’s founders, Ginny Hutchens Honeycutt, the late Jane Brooks, and the late Robert Hutchens, were awarded in honor of Westchester’s 50th anniversary for their vision and dedication to the school’s inception. It all began in 1966 with a phone call and a vision for a new school. The women wanted to build a school home for their children and others that would change the lives of students for years to come. They envisioned an academically stellar school where students could learn life lessons, express themselves through the arts, challenge themselves athletically, and make lifelong friends. Their vision became a reality when Mr. Hutchens signed on to the project, bringing with him extensive business experience and strong community connections. Together these three visionaries created Westchester Academy. Forty-two students and 15 staff members held class for the first time on September 12, 1967.

About the school’s 50th, Honeycutt remarked, “In my younger years, a half-century seemed so far away that it was not conceivable to even contemplate. But now, as I reminisce, I recognize the importance of dreaming big and setting goals to benefit future generations.”
