Robert East was inducted into the Westchester Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023. A Varsity Basketball team member from 1972-1975, East was a standout player from among the school’s earliest teams. A dedicated athlete who was a leader on and off the court, East’s basketball career highlights include leading Westchester to a 1972 victory over Forsyth Country Day School with 22 points. In 1973, the Boys Varsity Basketball team closed its regular season with a 12-0 conference record. In 1974, East received the Wildcat Award for his good sportsmanship and team leadership. After his years at Westchester, East attended Catawba College. He went on to work in the automotive supply industry as an operations manager. He was in a terrible accident and died in October 2000. East has a son, John Robert East II, who lives in Ohio, and a 3-year-old grandson, John Robert Michael East III (also goes by Robert). His mother, Jan East Glover, of High Point, will accept the award on his behalf.
